ERRC Bruin Legacy Tour: "UCLA Botanical Gardens"

Experience the beauty of fall at the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden on Tuesday, September 15th at 11:00am. This one-hour guided tour will take you through a lush, 7-acre living museum featuring plant species from around the world, right in the heart of UCLA. Led by knowledgeable Garden Guides, the tour will highlight seasonal blooms such as the golden thryallis, paintbrush lily, Great valley gumplant, and the striking white silk floss tree.

The UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden acknowledges the Gabrielino/Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar (the Los Angeles basin and So. Channel Islands). As a promoter of nature at a California land grant institution, we pay our respects to the Honuukvetam (Ancestors), ‘Ahiihirom (Elders) and ‘Eyoohiinkem (our relatives/relations) past, present and emerging.

Space is limited

Tour guides will meet us at La Kretz Garden Pavilion: 707 Tiverton Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90095 (Click here for Google Map link).

There is limited parking at UCLA on weekdays, and we recommend taking public transportation, biking, or ride share options. The Metro, Culver City, and Santa Monica buses all have stops near the Botanical Garden.

Visitors can park in UCLA Parking Structure 2. There are also metered parking spots in Westwood Village and on Manning Ave.

UCLA or the ERRC is not responsible for any personal belongings stored during your visit. Visitors may wish to bring a light jacket or sweater due to the tour being outside.

In-Person UCLARA Sponsored Tour of the Hilbert Museum of California Art (Thursday, September 17, 2026)

Hilbert Museum Entrance and Mural by Millard Sheets "Pleasure Along the Beach" from 1969, a 40ft x 16ft glass and tile mosaic.

Tour Description: A self-guided tour of an amazing collection of art by Californian artists. Docents are available inside the Museum for information and questions. Docents will be on hand to answer questions and provide insight into the famous mural originally created for a Santa Monica Home Savings and Loan. Visit starts promptly at 11:00 am at the entrance to the Museum under this mural.

Highlights: There are seven Current Exhibits including:

North Wing-Jørgen Klubien at Disney and Pixar,

California Art Club’s 115th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition

Additional details will be emailed out to registrants a few days before the tour. Make sure your email address is correct before submitting your registration.

Parking: Is located adjacent to the Hillbert Museum. There is free 2-hour parking on nearby streets and free parking at a city parking structure on Lemon Street. Car pooling is encouraged.

Dining: Across the street from the Museum at the Old Santa Fe Train Station. As well as more restaurants in Old Town Orange a few blocks from the Hilbert.

Registration: This event is open to only UCLARA members (who my invite one guest per registrant) beginning August 13, 2026. Beginning August 27, 2026, this event will be open to both UCLARA and Emeriti members and guests (1 guest per registrant). All registration closes on Sept. 13, 2026. There is NO cost for this UCLARA Sponsored tour; but the size of the group is limited to 20. If there is enough interest, we will offer a second group of 20 starting at 1:00pm.
