Susan Orlean, one of the nation's most esteemed journalists and authors, turns her keen powers of observation and narrative gifts to the saga of the 1986 fire that ravaged the Los Angeles Public Library. Part detective story, part history, The Library Book serves as a meditation on and an ode to libraries, librarians, and their role in our communities

Susan Orlean is the author of eight books, including Rin Tin Tin and The Orchid Thief. She has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 1992.

The UCLA Emeriti Association and the UCLA Retirees Association (UCLARA) are both all-volunteer organizations that advocate for UCLA's retired faculty/staff and plan programs for their members. Support their advocacy efforts by joining or renewing your membership. Membership forms will be available at the program.
