Los Leones day hike

The UCLARA Hiking Group is planning an out and back Halloween Hike on Thursday, October 31, 2019 on the Los Leones Trail in the south end of Topanga State Park just a mile from the Pacific Ocean. The ivy and chaparral-lined hike offers glimpses of Santa Monica Bay.  After 1.3 miles and 550 feet of elevation gain, Los Leones Trail arrives at a clearing on a ridge at a bench that looks down on the Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, and the ocean beyond.  The top of Los Leones Trail joins East Topanga Fire Road.  Our hike will be about 3 miles, out and back.  

Activity Level: Semi Tough-3 miles round trip with a steep, uneven portions and 550 ft elevation gain.  Path is partly foot trail and partly fire road.

Directions/Parking:    

Meet at Los Leones Trail Gate at end of cul-de-sac at 580 Los Liones Drive, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272.  Free parking is available along Los Liones Drive in designated spaces.

You can find the Los Leones Entrance to Topanga State Park on the right side of the cul-de-sac at the end of Los Leones Drive in Pacific Palisades.  Los Leones Drive is the second left off Sunset Blvd. from PCH and is just 1/3 of a mile from the beach.  Parking is available on Los Leones Drive at one of two parking areas.  A big sign and gate should make Los Leones Trail (see photo) easy to spot and that is where we will meet at 9:30 am.  Be sure to bring water and any snacks you may want and please wear hiking shoes or comfortable shoes with support and tread. And sunscreen, too.
