Mrs. Block's 2022 Spring Recital Series at the UCLA Chancellor's Residence

Sponsored by the UCLA Emeriti/Retirees Relations Center

Over the past 14 years, Mrs. Carol Block has graciously opened the doors of the Chancellor’s Residence allowing students from The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music to showcase their talents while creating a unique opportunity for UCLA emeriti and retirees to interact with students while enjoying beautiful music in a social setting.

This series has featured hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students as they perform music of diverse styles including classical, jazz, bluegrass, and mariachi, among others.

Kim Mendez has been involved in music, choral singing, and musical theater productions for over 30 years. Recent stage credits include principal roles in The Pirates of Penzance (Major General Stanley), the world premiere of Juana with Opera UCLA (Sor Rafaela), and an art song recital curated by world-renowned mezzo soprano Michelle DeYoung. They sang as a featured soloist in the world premier of We Look to the Stars, a commission written by Dr. Juhi Bansal for LA Opera’s Eurydice Found Festival. Additionally, they performed on the Naxos recording of The Passion of Yeshua with the Buffalo Philharmonic that won the Grammy for Best Choral Performance in 2021.
