The Monuments Men

Sponsored by the UCLA Emeriti Association and the UCLA Retirees Association.

During World War II It’s no secret that the Nazis confiscated hundreds of thousands of works of art from Jewish families, collectors and dealers. It’s also a well known fact that the Allies were responsible for discovering and rescuing many of these precious paintings, sculptures and decorative art objects. Some passed directly through the hands of the Monuments Men as they were discovered in the salt mines of Austria, in caves, other buildings and even at Herman Goring’s summer home.  Their stories are as fascinating as the objects themselves.

Join Ms. Lee Rubenstein of the Getty Foundation as she takes us through another fascinating tour of art and artifacts that are part of the Getty Collection.

Thursday, October 13, 1:30pm
