Prof. Edward Leamer                     Prof. Dan Mitchell

Sponsored by the UCLA Emeriti Association and the UCLA Retirees Association.

Professor-Emeritus Daniel Mitchell will introduce Professor Leamer, and he will oversee two question and answer periods, one for the recession risks in 2023 and the other for our future post-industrial world.

Dan Mitchell, former interim director of the UCLA Anderson Forecast, will interview Ed Leamer, former director of the Forecast, about the economic outlook, the likelihood of a recession, and forecasting more generally, including interpretation and presentation of economic data and the uses and abuses of econometrics. Q&A with the audience will follow

Edward Leamer, Distinguished Emeritus Professor and former Director of the UCLA Anderson Forecast, will be offering his views on two subjects:  (1) the short-run risks facing the US economy, including inflation, recession, and job losses,  and (2) the long-run problems associated with the post-industrial world we are moving into.

Professor Leamer will also be commenting on the role of visual images that can reveal the evidence upon which forecasts rest: If you can "see" it, you can "believe" it.

Edward Leamer is Distinguished Emeritus Professor and Senior Economist with the UCLA Anderson Forecast. Professor Leamer received a B.A. degree in mathematics from Princeton University and a Ph.D.degree in economics and an M.A. degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan. He has published over 120 articles and 5 books.

Dan Mitchell holds a B.A. degree in Economics from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Economics from M.I.T.

Both of our distinguished speakers have served as advisors to both governmental agencies and financial institutions.
