Sponsored by the UCLA Emeriti Association and the UCLA Retirees Association.

The Emeriti and Retirees Associations cordially invite you to a special musical program featuring Professor David Kaplan, the Inaugural Ralph and Shirley Shapiro Chair in Piano Performance in the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.

Professor Kaplan will be performing on the Faculty Club’s newly acquired Steinway B piano located in the Morrison Room. He himself guided the Club in the selection of this instrument, whose purchase was made possible by a number of donors, including the UCLA Emeriti Association, Victoria and Timothy Steele, Jane Permaul, and Julie Kwan.

Born in New York City in 1983 to musical parents, Professor Kaplan received his undergraduate degree at UCLA in 2005. A Fulbright Fellowship from 2008-10 enabled him to study conducting with Lutz Köhler at the Universität der Künste Berlin, after which he attended the Yale School of Music, earning three post-graduate degrees, including Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA), in 2014. A world-class performer, Professor Kaplan has worked with many prestigious ensembles, including the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. The New York Times has described him as “excellent and adventurous” and the Boston Globe has praised his “grace and fire” at the keyboard.

The UCLA Emeriti Association and the UCLA Retirees Association (UCLARA) are both all-volunteer organizations that represent the interests of UCLA's retired faculty/staff and plan programs for their members. Support their advocacy efforts by joining or renewing your membership. Membership forms will be available at the program.
