Come with us and stay cool along the beach and bluff of Point Dume State Beach and Natural Preserve.
Our hike will take us along the shore up to the bluff above Point Dume. The trail is wide and sandy. The hike is approximately 3.4 miles round trip with a 374 feet of elevation gain (and then loss). Views of the Pacific, Malibu, all the way to Catalina and Santa Monica.
There will be little to no shade on this hike so be sure to wear the appropriate clothing and bring enough water. Temperature is expected to be in the mid-70’s to mid-80’s and could be sea breezy. Bring a hat, water and a snack.
Sadly, since this is a state park, no dogs are allowed.
There are no public phones or restrooms at the Preserve. Restrooms can be found on Westward Beach Road. Park hours are sunrise to sunset.

Parking: Westward Beach Road. (Take Cliffside Drive to Birdview Avenue, and park free along Westward Beach Road, or pay a fee at Westward Beach lot, and take a trail to the Preserve.) Or park at Zuma Beach county park for a bit further walk along the coast.
Directions:
From the I-10 west Take PCH from Santa Monica north through Malibu, past Kanan Dume road to the Westward Beach exit just north after passing around the Point Dume.
From the I-101 north take Kanan Road west to Kanan Dume Road, turn right onto PCH (heading north) Pass around Point Dume to Westward Beach, just north of the Point.
This hike is probably the furthest from West LA we’ve ventured, so we encourage carpooling, as possible.
