The Emeriti and Retirees Associations invite you to an informative UCLA Conversation. Darnell Hunt, UCLA’s Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, will discuss topics including UCLA’s Strategic Plan; UCLA’s recent acquisitions in Palos Verdes, Downtown L.A., and the technical park at the former Westside Pavilion; Dr. Hunt’s time time as Interim Chancellor; and his research on the Hollywood Diversity Report. He will discuss these topics with Stuart Wolpert, director of UCLA Conversations, followed by an audience Q&A.
Dr. Darnell Hunt is an American sociologist and academic administrator. He is a professor of sociology and African American studies at the University of California, Los Angeles and the former director of the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies. Hunt previously served as interim chancellor of UCLA from August to December 2024.
He now serves as UCLA’s executive vice chancellor and provost, responsible for administering campus operations and the academic enterprise. A celebrated scholar of race and media, he is also well known for his longstanding commitment to high-quality public education, support of interdisciplinary research for the common good and vision for inclusive excellence.
Hunt has written extensively about issues related to race, media and culture, including four books and numerous articles for both scholarly journals and media outlets. For more than two decades, he has studied questions of access and diversity in the entertainment industry. From 2014 to 2022, he was the lead author of UCLA’s annual Hollywood Diversity Report, providing comprehensive analyses of the employment of women and people of color in front of and behind the camera in film and television.
